How I 3x'd Instagram reach in 30 days
I went from ~9k reach per post to ~28k in 30 days without paying a cent for boosts. Here's exactly what changed — you can copy it this week.
Step 1: I stopped posting carousels and doubled down on Reels. My old 3x/week carousel rhythm was replaced with 1 Reel/day + 1 carousel/week. Carousels aren't dead, but they don't feed the algorithm anywhere near as much reach as short-form video right now.
Step 2: Every Reel opens with a text hook on top of a moving frame in the first 1.2 seconds. My winners are 'the mistake I made', 'the thing nobody tells you' and 'this is why your ___ isn't working'. Boring, but they work.
Step 3: I write captions like YouTube titles because IG search is now a real traffic source. My reach from Explore + Search almost doubled after switching.
Step 4: I reply to every comment in the first hour. IG rewards early engagement with a longer distribution window, and this alone probably added 30% reach.

Curious what tools you use for editing? Are you doing all in-app or with Descript/CapCut?
CapCut for editing, Instagram native for uploading (native uploads still get a small algorithmic bump vs scheduled 3rd-party tools).
The 1-hour reply window is real. We saw similar results after making it a team KPI.
Any luck with the 'save this' CTA at the end? I've been testing it but engagement is flat.
Great write-up — pinned this as a template for our Social Media Management clients. The hook-in-1.2s rule is universal.
